Since its inception, Théâtre du Soleil has, both consciously and instinctively, associated creation with transmission, production with apprenticeship, theatre with school. Supporting the spirit of collective creation, Bonjour India helps bring back French stage director Ariane Mnouchkine and her avant-garde stage ensemble Théâtre du Soleil to India in January for a new session of their famous École Nomade, or Itinerant School, which has already come to Pondicherry in December 2015. École Nomade – Itinerant School does far more than provide drama classes. Rather, it constitutes moments of practical reflection in which participants find an opportunity to share a collective way of working.
‘Because this is how we, at the Théâtre du Soleil, explore, try, fail, and begin again. In short, this is how we work’.
– Ariane Mnouchkine, Director, Théâtre du Soleil
École Nomade is an itinerant theatre school for aspiring actors and enthusiasts that travel to different countries with theatre tools, learning and sharing in a collective process of creation through workshops. Enthusiasts from across India have been invited to these workshops to hone their skills and exchange creative processes and ideas. Almost two hundreds candidates from all over India applied to be part of the Ecole Nomade. More than one hundred of them passing group auditions, organised by two members of the Theatre du Soleil in Pondichery between 5th-7th January 2018, are now part of the 2018 session which is taking place at Indianostrum theatre from 9th to 26th January.
